For example:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n    asking how many hours a week respondents spend doing different things\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    asking how much money respondents spent on different activities during a visit\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    asking respondents to share a fixed amount or percentage between a set of options\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  The amount allocated to each option gives the relative importance of each. This gives good numeric data for analysis, but is quite difficult for respondents.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   This worksheet shows you how to calculate a running total as the respondent completes the answers. It explains how to create a set of <strong>Open Series First<\/strong> and <strong>Open Series Next<\/strong> questions for quantity responses and put a running total into the final response. It also shows you how to set a valid range on the total, so that respondents cannot move to the next page if the total has overrun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: The <strong>Open Series First<\/strong> and <strong>Open Series Next<\/strong> question styles are new in Snap XMP Desktop. If you are using a survey that has been upgraded from Snap 11 Professional then the equivalent question style is <strong>Open Grid First<\/strong> and <strong>Open Grid Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-7394-o26593\"><\/a><a id=\"post-7394-o26600\"><\/a><a id=\"post-7394-o26594\"><\/a>Step 1: Create your set of questions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  The first step is to create the group of questions that need to be totalled. These must be quantity questions.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   In Snap XMP Desktop, open the survey in the Questionnaire window. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click <strong>New Question <\/strong>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"26\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/word-image-54.png\" class=\"wp-image-7395\">\n   to create a new question.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Select <strong>Open Series First<\/strong> as the question style \n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Select <strong>Response<\/strong> in the next dropdown then select Q<strong>uantity <\/strong>as the <strong>response <\/strong>type. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"623\" height=\"141\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/graphical-user-interface-application-description-12.png\" alt=\"Graphical user interface, application\n\nDescription automatically generated\" class=\"wp-image-7396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/graphical-user-interface-application-description-12.png 623w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/graphical-user-interface-application-description-12-300x68.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 623px) 100vw, 623px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li>\n  Enter the question text, for example \u201c<strong>How did you spend your day at the activity centre? Please allocate hours to the activities up to a maximum of 8 hours.<\/strong>\u201d\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Enter the first activity in the grid label.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Press <strong>Tab<\/strong> to create the next question in the list. By default, the next question added is an <strong>Open Series Next<\/strong> question with a <strong>Quantity <\/strong>response. Enter another activity in the grid label. Scroll to the <strong>Valid<\/strong> property and enter 0 to 8.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"280\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/table-description-automatically-generated-8.png\" alt=\"Table\n\nDescription automatically generated\" class=\"wp-image-7400\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>\n  Scroll to the <strong>Initial Value<\/strong> property and enter the total: Q1a+Q1b+Q1c+Q1d+Q1e. When the open series entries change the value of the total field is updated when the respondent moves to the next entry. In this example, the total should not be edited so set the <strong>Read Only<\/strong> property to Yes.
