This tutorial explains how to limit respondents in multiple categories, for example, by gender and age, also known as an interlocking quota. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can find these questions in the Reference Survey Pak (Personal demographics) supplied with Snap XMP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Create a derived variable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\n To set up an interlocking quota, you first need to set up a derived variable in your survey.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Open the survey in Snap XMP Desktop. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click Variables<\/strong> on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar. This opens the Variables window. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. \n Click New variable<\/strong> \n \n to create a new variable.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. \n Name the variable AgeGenderGroup<\/strong>, and label it Age and gender groups<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. \n Set the Type<\/strong> to Derived<\/strong>, the Response<\/strong> to Single<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. \n In the code list add the code labels and values:\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      1. \n Click Save<\/strong> \n \n to save the variable.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Step 2: Set up the quota for the variable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        1. Select View | Quotas and Screen Outs<\/strong>. This opens the Quota and Screen Outs<\/strong> window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Click New Quota or Screen Out<\/strong> then select New Quota<\/strong>. This opens the Quota<\/strong> dialog. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. In Name<\/strong>, enter AgeGenderQuota. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. In Variable<\/strong>, select the variable AgeGenderGroup. When you select a variable, the Details<\/strong> table lists all the answer codes. The target for each category is available as a number or percentage. When you enter a target number, this automatically updates the percentage and overall target. Once interviewing has started Actual<\/strong> and %<\/strong> show the latest response counts.<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          1. When the quota is exceeded, the participant is directed to a web page or shown a custom message. In multilingual surveys, select the language then enter the message for the selected language.           2. Click OK<\/strong> to save the quota. The Quota and Screen Outs<\/strong> window shows the new quota. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            Step 3: Enable the quota<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            You can enable quotas individually or at the survey level, which is the default. You can change this in the Quota Control dialog. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n In the Quota dialog, select Enabled <\/strong>to activate the selected quota. Clear Enabled <\/strong>to disable the selected quota.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
