If you\u2019re interviewing using the Interviewer app, you can take a photo on your smartphone or tablet in response to a question. This worksheet tells you how to set up the survey and download the response files. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  Note that you cannot take photos in the survey on Windows devices, but you can attach a stored photo.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  You can tell people to answer a question with a photo or a file attached using a data picker.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  When you create an open ended literal question in a survey, you have the option of showing the question with a data picker. If it\u2019s an \u2018Offline\u2019 survey, you have the choice of an on-screen keyboard or an \u2018attach photo\u2019 option. When the survey is running, you can respond to the question by taking a photo or attaching a file.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   Snap XMP Desktop provides the option of limiting the size of the images used in the survey, as large photos can: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n    Take up a lot of space on a device\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    Use a lot of bandwidth\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    Be slow to upload\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>     Use a lot of units, as each megabyte of the image will use a response unit. For example, a 10MB image will use 10 units in Snap XMP Online.   <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Putting the photo question in the survey <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>   This example shows how to add a question to your survey with a photo response. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   Open your survey in Snap XMP Desktop. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click into the \u2018Tablet\u2019 or \u2018Phone\u2019 edition (Please note that you will need to enable the data picker in each edition of the survey separately, as the change is not mirrored across all editions).\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Add an Open-ended style question you your survey (Click \n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"35\" height=\"35\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image.png\" class=\"wp-image-7107\">\n   on the toolbar to add a question and use the drop-down list to set its style.).\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Enter the question text, for example, \u201cClick the icon to attach a photo of the problem\u201d.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Set the second drop down on the toolbar to <strong>Show, <\/strong>then select <strong>Data Picker<\/strong> in the next drop-down list.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Tick the <strong>Show<\/strong> box.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Change the drop-down list on the right from <strong>Keyboard<\/strong> to <strong>Attach Photo<\/strong>. The icon by the response box will change from an A to a landscape image. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"832\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7108\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-1.png 832w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-1-300x87.png 300w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-1-768x222.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 832px) 100vw, 832px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\">\n<li>   Click <strong>Save    <\/strong><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"37\" height=\"37\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-2.png\" class=\"wp-image-7109\">    to save your changes. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting the size of the images <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  Large images can use a lot of memory on a device, be slow to upload, and take up a lot of bandwidth when they are uploaded. Also, in Snap XMP for each megabyte of an attachment, it will use 1 of your allotted units. For example, a 10mb image will use up 10 units.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  Once you have set the size, you must publish your survey, upload it to your Snap Online account, enable \u2018Offline Interviewing\u2019 and make it available to your Interview Associates.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n  Click \n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"31\" height=\"31\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-3.png\" class=\"wp-image-7110\">\n   on the <strong>Questionnaire <\/strong>window toolbar to open the <strong>Questionnaire Properties<\/strong> dialog.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Scroll down and select <strong>SOI<\/strong> in the left-hand pane.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"476\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7111\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-4.png 476w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-4-300x236.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 476px) 100vw, 476px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>   By default, the <strong>Image Size<\/strong> is set to <strong>Medium<\/strong>. You can change this to a Small size or a larger size depending on your needs. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Press <strong>OK<\/strong> to save the change. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   You can now publish the survey and view it to your Snap XMP Online account. In Snap XMP Online, make the survey available for <strong>Offline Interviewing<\/strong>, then share the survey to your interviewers&#8217; accounts. Please see the following worksheet on how this is done: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/setting-up-for-interviewing-with-soi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Setting up surveys for interviewing with Interviewer<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test attaching the images to the survey <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>   Open the survey in the Interviewer app and attach a photo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   Open the <strong>Interviewer <\/strong>app on your device <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Log into your interviewer&#8217;s account <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Open the survey containing the question asking for a photo response\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"387\" height=\"407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-5.png 387w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-5-285x300.png 285w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 387px) 100vw, 387px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>\n  Click the photo icon to attach an image. You will then see the <strong>Select photo source<\/strong> window, you can choose to take a new photo using the devices camera or upload an existing image.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"388\" height=\"499\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-6.png 388w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-6-233x300.png 233w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li>\n  Once you have selected or taken your image, a thumbnail of it will be displayed on screen. You can use the <strong>Remove<\/strong> button to remove the image and take a new one if needed. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"389\" height=\"416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-7.png 389w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/word-image-7-281x300.png 281w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li>   Click <strong>Submit<\/strong> to complete the survey. You will then need to sync the response from the device to import it into your Snap XMP Online account.  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Downloading your attachments <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>   When you have received responses, you must download the attachments from your Snap XMP Online account to examine them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   Login to your Snap XMP Online account and select the survey. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Select the <strong>Collect<\/strong> tab.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click on the <strong>Responses<\/strong> tab on the left-hand pane, then select <strong>Attachments.<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  You can then download a individual attachment by clicking on the blue link in the <strong>Response ID <\/strong>field to download all attachments for that respondent, or click on the blue link that appears under the question. Each image that is uploaded will be recorded under a reference which will match the reference captured for that response to the attachment question in the survey.
