These responses usually range from a negative to a positive rating or vice versa and often include 5 or more points. An analysis of the results can be hard to interpret if all the categories are charted. The responses can be grouped into a reduced number of categories such as positive, neutral and negative to simplify the chart and make it easier to interpret at a glance. This can be further simplified to show only positive or negative responses to the rating scale question.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  This worksheet shows how to:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n    categorise responses as positive, neutral or negative\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    create a horizontal bar chart using the new categories\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    exclude the neutral and negative categories, leaving only the positive category\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Categorise responses as positive, neutral or negative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  In this example, participants rate aspects of service on a 5 point scale ranging from Very Good to Very Poor. Derived Variables are used to sort Very Good and Good responses into a new Positive category,&nbsp;OK responses into a new Neutral category, and&nbsp;Poor and Very Poor responses into a new Negative category.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   On the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar, click\u00a0<strong>Variables<\/strong>    <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-6657\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/variablesicon-png.png\" alt=\"VariablesIcon.png\">   \u00a0to open the\u00a0Variables Window. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Click <strong>New Variable<\/strong>&nbsp;   <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"26\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/newsurveyicon-png-4.png\" class=\"wp-image-6658\" alt=\"NewSurveyIcon.png\">   &nbsp;to add a new variable. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Specify the\u00a0Variable details as follows:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Name:<\/strong>&nbsp;VQ6a <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Label:<\/strong> Quality of product (this will be displayed on the chart) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Type:<\/strong> Derived (the variable will derive its data from other existing variables) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Response:<\/strong> Single (each participant will only fall into one of the new codes) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"625\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/derivedvar1-png.png\" alt=\"DerivedVar1.PNG\" class=\"wp-image-6659\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/derivedvar1-png.png 625w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/derivedvar1-png-300x189.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\">\n<li>\n  Create the derived values for the Negative, Neutral and Positive ratings. For example, the Negative category is given by points 1 and 2 on the scale (Very Poor and Poor) and the Value is Q6a=(1,2).\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click <strong>Save<\/strong> \n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/saveicon-png-4.png\" class=\"wp-image-6660\" alt=\"SaveIcon.png\">\n  &nbsp;to save the variable and close the Variable Details window.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  On the&nbsp;Variables Window toolbar, click <strong>Clone Variable<\/strong>&nbsp;to copy the derived variable you have just created. You could also exclude the positive and neutral values to create a negative chart. This is achieved using the Chart Designer.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n  In the Analysis Chart window, double-click the <strong>Negative<\/strong> bar to open the Chart Designer.
