This tutorial explains how to create a questionnaire with a multi column layout when the participant is completing the survey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Creating the survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. In Snap XMP Desktop, open the Survey Overview window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click \"NewIcon.png\"\u00a0to create a new survey. This opens a list of survey templates. Select the required template as the starting point for your survey. This example uses the Blank Template provided with Snap XMP Desktop. This creates a questionnaire with editions for PC\/Laptop, Tablet, Phone and Paper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Click Next<\/strong>. This opens the New Online Survey dialog for online surveys or the New Survey dialog for offline surveys.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Enter the survey name and title. For online surveys choose the folder location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Click OK<\/strong>. The new survey opens in the Questionnaire<\/strong> window, by default. The questionnaire has 4 editions: PC\/Laptop, Tablet, Phone and Paper. You will need to check that the column layout you have set up works for the editions that are used.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Add a title, sub-title and questions to the questionnaire.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. \n Click \n \"SaveIcon.png\"\n to save the changes.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Step 2: Setting the survey to multiple columns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      1. \n Click Questionnaire properties<\/strong> \n \"QuestionnairePropsIcon.png\"\n to open the Questionnaire properties dialog.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. \n Select the Margins<\/strong> section, and set the Columns<\/strong> to 2. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        1. Click OK<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Note<\/strong>: You may notice that this adjustment and the upcoming Step 3 adjustments have little or no impact on the survey\u2019s layout in Design Mode. This is because the column layout is finalized when the survey is previewed, later in step 4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Step 3: Controlling the column layout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          1. \n When the questionnaire is running the Title and Sub-title variables are usually displayed across the full width of the page. Select the question and select the Columns<\/strong> topic then ensure that the Full Page<\/strong> option is enabled. (Note<\/strong>: The number to the right of the Columns<\/strong> selection is used in a separate feature to determine the column layout of the answer codes in a single or multi choice question.)\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            1. \n Similarly, select the remaining questions in the survey and ensure that the Full Page option is not<\/strong> enabled. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                Step 4: Previewing the questionnaire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                1. \n Select File | Publish<\/strong> to open the Publish Questionnaire<\/strong> dialog.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                2. \n Set the Method<\/strong> to Preview Only. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
