Moving analyses between surveys<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Snap Interchange Format<\/strong> (SnIF<\/strong>) is used to transfer analyses, including tables, charts, word clouds, lists and maps between surveys. For example, if a number of surveys require the same set of analysis definitions, these could be created in one survey, exported in a SnIF<\/strong> format file and then imported into another survey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n In the following example the data is exported via the clipboard. For larger exports, it is recommended that you export to a file.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Click Analyses<\/strong>\u00a0 \"AnalysesIcon.png\" \u00a0on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar. This opens the\u00a0Analyses\u00a0<\/strong>window. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. \n Select the menu option File | Export<\/strong> to display the Analysis Export<\/strong> dialog.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. \n Specify the Format<\/strong> as SNAP Xml Format<\/strong> (SnIF Xml)<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. \n Set the Destination<\/strong> as Clipboard<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. By default, this will export all analyses in the survey. If you only need a selection, type the names of the ones required separated by commas, in Content<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. \n Click OK<\/strong> to export the selected analyses.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. \n Open the survey that you want to add the analyses to.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Click Analyses<\/strong>\u00a0 \"AnalysesIcon.png\" \u00a0on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar. This opens the\u00a0Analyses\u00a0<\/strong>window. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. \n Select the menu option File | Import<\/strong> to display the Analysis Import<\/strong> dialog.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      1. \n Set the Source<\/strong> to Clipboard<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. \n Click OK <\/strong>to import the analysis definitions. They will be added to the survey with all the original details.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. \n If there are already analyses with the same name in the survey, an error message appears. Click Done<\/strong> then each analysis is displayed so that the name can be changed and the item saved.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Exporting an analysis to use in an external application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Analyses can be exported from Snap XMP Desktop by <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        • \n Using the clipboard \n <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • \n By exporting to a file \n <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          \n You can then import them into a report; either as a picture in a word-processing package, or into a slide show generated in a presentation package. Tables and lists can also be exported in text format into a spreadsheet package, for you to carry out further calculations.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Using the Clipboard to paste an analysis as a picture <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          1. Click Analyses<\/strong>\u00a0 \"AnalysesIcon.png\" \u00a0on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar. This opens the\u00a0Analyses\u00a0<\/strong>window. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. \n Open the analysis in the Analysis Display window.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. \n Click Copy \n \"CopyIcon.png\"\n  to place a copy of the analysis on the clipboard.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          4. \n Switch to the word-processing or presentation package and choose the menu option Edit | Paste Special<\/strong>. Different packages may use different terminology.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          5. \n On the Paste Special<\/strong> options select the picture (Enhanced metafile) option and click OK<\/strong> to insert the picture in the document.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            Using the Clipboard to paste a table or list in text format <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            1. Click Analyses<\/strong>\u00a0 \"AnalysesIcon.png\" \u00a0on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar. This opens the\u00a0Analyses\u00a0<\/strong>window. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
            2. \n Open the table or list analysis in the Analysis Display window.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            3. \n Click Copy \n \"CopyIcon.png\"\n  to place a copy of the analysis on the clipboard.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            4. \n Switch to a spreadsheet package and choose the menu option Edit | Paste<\/strong>. The table or list is inserted in text format, enabling further analysis to be carried out.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              Exporting an analysis as a file<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              1. \n In the Analysis Display window showing the built analysis, such as a chart, select File | Export<\/strong> to display the Analysis Export<\/strong> dialog.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                1. Specify the Format<\/strong> for the exported analysis. This will depend on the requirements of the package that the analysis is destined for. Comma separated<\/strong> and Tab separated<\/strong> are only suitable for table and list export.\n
                    \n
                  • Comma separated (CSV)<\/strong> each case comprises a series of fields, each separated by a comma. Fields corresponding to literal, date and time variables are surrounded by quote characters. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Tab separated (TSV)<\/strong> comprises a series of fields each separated by a tab. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Windows Bitmap (BMP)<\/strong> gives a pixel-based graphic. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Enhanced Metafile (EMF)<\/strong> gives a vector-based graphic. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Web format (HTML) <\/strong>gives an HTML export <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Excel (CSV) <\/strong>each case comprises a series of fields, each separated by a comma for use in a spreadsheet. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • The Export <\/strong>option is only available when CSV and TSV formats are selected. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Leave the Encoding as Automatic unless you know that the software you are importing to requires a different format (If there are problems, try UTF-8 or ANSI format.) <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Specify the Destination<\/strong> by typing in a path and file name or click on Browse<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
