Adding the name and address of the participant on the first page of a questionnaire or covering letter can make this process easier.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   This worksheet uses Snap XMP Desktop to insert participants\u2019 names and addresses on the first page of a questionnaire, load the participants\u2019 address details from a spreadsheet and then use them to print ready for mailing.<a id=\"post-5590-o20112\"><\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-5590-_Step_1:_Adding_1\"><\/a>Step 1: Adding the name and address to your survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  In order to display the participant name and address details in the questionnaire, you will need to create some variables to contain this information\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n  In the <strong>Survey Overview<\/strong> window, choose whether the survey is online or offline then open the survey in the <strong>Questionnaire<\/strong> window.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Make sure that you select the <strong>Paper<\/strong> edition that is going to be printed.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click <strong>New Question<\/strong>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"26\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/newicon-png-14.png\" class=\"wp-image-5591\" alt=\"NewIcon.png\">\n  . In the <strong>Variable Properties<\/strong> dialog, change the <strong>Name <\/strong>property to Name and click<strong> OK<\/strong>. Set the tab value to 0%. E.g. If you have 5 fields in your database that contain the name and address details then you would create 5 Open Series questions. The questionnaire now appears to have a blank area where the address variables are. Note:&nbsp;box outlines not available for scanning editions.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"725\" height=\"48\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hideboxes-png.png\" alt=\"Hide the Boxes\" class=\"wp-image-5598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hideboxes-png.png 725w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hideboxes-png-300x20.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>\n  If the survey has other editions, which do not display the address, you need to hide the address lines in each of those editions. To hide the address, select an address line then select <strong>Show<\/strong> in the toolbar topics. Select (All) and clear the <strong>Show<\/strong> checkbox.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-5590-o20117\"><\/a><a id=\"post-5590-_Step_4:_Importing\"><\/a><a id=\"post-5590-_Step_3:_Importing\"><\/a>Step 3: Importing the participant name and address details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  You will need a list of your participants\u2019 names and addresses in a spreadsheet or database format.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n  Click<strong> Database Links <\/strong>to display the Database Links dialog and click <strong>New<\/strong>. \n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  In the Database Linkage Wizard select the <strong>Import from database<\/strong> option and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click <strong>Select Database File<\/strong> and browse to the file containing the participant data. . If connecting to a database select the Build Data Link option and enter the connection details.\n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"575\" height=\"339\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dblink1-png.png\" class=\"wp-image-5599\" alt=\"DBLink1.PNG\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dblink1-png.png 575w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dblink1-png-300x177.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  In <strong>Select the table to use<\/strong>, select the table or worksheet required. Click<strong> Next<\/strong>. If you do not wish to import details for all the participants in the file, you can set a filter in <strong>Where condition (SQL)<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  In <strong>Import\/Export Options<\/strong>, select <strong>Append all cases<\/strong>. This option imports new cases from the data file and appends them to the existing cases. If you already have cases in your survey, you can select a different option so identical cases are not imported. Select the Snap variable in the right-hand column with the corresponding the name and address fields from the database or spreadsheet. If you wish, change the name of the link to something easily recognisable. Click <strong>Finish<\/strong> to save the database link then click <strong>Close<\/strong> to close the Database Links dialog.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-5590-o20120\"><\/a><a id=\"post-5590-_Step_5:_Previewing\"><\/a><a id=\"post-5590-_Step_4:_Previewing\"><\/a>Step 4: Previewing and printing your questionnaire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n  In the <strong>Questionnaire<\/strong> window click <strong>Data View mode<\/strong> \n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"27\" height=\"26\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/datamodeicon-png.png\" class=\"wp-image-5602\" alt=\"DataModeIcon.png\">\n  &nbsp;on the questionnaire toolbar to see how the printed questionnaire will look.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Select<strong> Panel Data <\/strong>from the dropdown list. If it is the first time you have selected Panel Data, you will be asked which panel you wish to display. In this example, there is only one panel and one database link. Select the <strong>All Filtered Cases<\/strong> radio button and click<strong> Print<\/strong>. If you need to make any changes select <strong>Cancel<\/strong> in the Print dialog. You must print from <strong>Data View mode<\/strong> to include the imported panel data.
