One survey has more questions than the other. It assumes that both surveys contain data that will be merged into one survey for analysis.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  You may need to merge surveys in these situations:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n    Surveys run on an annual basis, to analyse trends through two or more years. (The questionnaire might change slightly from year to year).\n  <\/li><li>\n    Surveys on one subject but with different focal points (e.g. surveys of users and non-users of a service).\n  <\/li><li>\n    Surveys conducted for different locations (e.g. a survey of similar tourist attractions which varies between sites).\n  <\/li><li>\n    Surveys conducted using two different interviewing methods (e.g. kiosk and web).\n  <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-5558-o19093\"><\/a><a id=\"post-5558-_Step_1:_Creating\"><\/a>Step 1: Create a master survey to contain the data for both surveys<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  It is preferable to make a separate master survey to combine your surveys so that both the original surveys remain intact. The master survey will need to contain all the variables and codes in both surveys so that the analysis can be performed correctly.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n  In the <strong>Survey Overview<\/strong> window, select the survey with the highest number of variables. \n<\/li><li>\n  Select <strong>Clone<\/strong> \n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"26\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/cloneicon-png-2.png\" class=\"wp-image-5559\" alt=\"CloneIcon.png\">\n   to create a clone of this survey.\n<\/li><li>\n  In the <strong>Clone Survey<\/strong> dialog, select whether the new survey is Online or Offline then select <strong>Also clone the raw data<\/strong> to include the existing data. Click OK.\n<\/li><li>\n  In the <strong>New Survey<\/strong> dialog, enter a name for the new survey that indicates it is the combined survey.\n<\/li><li>\n  Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to open the new survey. Add in any variables or additional codes that are in the other survey but are not in this survey.\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-5558-o19227\"><\/a><a id=\"post-5558-_Step_2:_Setup\"><\/a>Step 2: Setup a database link to import the data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n  Select <strong>Database links <\/strong>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"27\" height=\"26\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dblinksicon-png.png\" class=\"wp-image-5560\" alt=\"DBLinksIcon.png\"><strong> from the Snap toolbar<\/strong>. This opens the Database Links dialog. \n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"596\" height=\"282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dblinksdlg-png.png\" alt=\"Database Links dialog\" class=\"wp-image-5561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dblinksdlg-png.png 596w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/dblinksdlg-png-300x142.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>\n  Click <strong>New<\/strong> to open the <strong>Database Linkage Wizard<\/strong> which guides you through the process of creating a new database link.\n<\/li><li>\n  In the Linkage Type section, select <strong>Import from Snap Survey<\/strong> and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>\n<\/li><li>\n  A list of all the surveys in the default directory is shown. Select the survey you want to import from and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>. (If the survey you require is not shown use the <strong>Browse <\/strong>button to find the appropriate directory.)\n<\/li><li>\n  You are asked how you wish to merge the survey. Select <strong>Append all cases<\/strong>. This adds all the imported cases as new cases at the end of the survey. Click <strong>Next<\/strong>. \n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-5558-o19228\"><\/a><a id=\"post-5558-_Step_3:_Mapping\"><\/a>Step 3: Mapping the variables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  The next window is where you will match the variables from the survey you are importing the data from to the survey you cloned as the master.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  The variables in the survey you are importing from are displayed in the left column and the current survey variables are displayed in the right column.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>   The wizard attempts to map any variables from both surveys if the variables are identically named.  <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"575\" height=\"247\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mapquestions-png.png\" alt=\"Mapping the survey questions\" class=\"wp-image-5562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mapquestions-png.png 575w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mapquestions-png-300x129.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>\n  Click each of the variables in the right-hand column. If the variable is a coded question the codes will be displayed in a section below the mapped variables. You can see the number of cases imported in Processed Cases of the Report dialog.
