This provides a personalized experience as the respondent progresses through the questionnaire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many uses for dynamic text:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>change the question text based on the responses to previous questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>change the answer codes based on the responses to previous questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>customize instructions based on the responses to previous questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>include text created using a derived variable calculated from a previous response<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>insert system paradata including case number and interview date and time information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-1229-_Toc33623570\"><\/a>Inserting a previous response into the text<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Snap XMP Desktop, inserting a <strong>Variable field<\/strong> adds dynamic text to the questionnaire. The dynamic text shows in the questionnaire as the variable name in curly brackets {}, for example, {Q1}. This displays the <strong>New variable field<\/strong> dialog.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"209\" height=\"196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/InsertMenu.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6914\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li>Complete the fields to define the dynamic text:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Variable <\/strong>list contains all the variables and paradata for the questionnaire. Select the variable to insert from the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Aspect<\/strong>, select the type of text to insert. There are three aspects to choose from: <strong>Reply<\/strong> inserts the question response; <strong>Name <\/strong>inserts the question number and <strong>Context <\/strong>inserts the current context.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Modify case<\/strong>, choose the case used to display the text: Normal, UPPER CASE, lower case, Sentence case, Title Case.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"199\" height=\"165\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/varfield.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6915\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li>Click<strong> OK<\/strong>. The dynamic text is inserted with the placeholder {Q1}. If more than one answer is selected in Q1 they will be substituted as a list.
