The codes may change when the data changes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create an &#8220;Other&#8221; category to group the codes that are outside the limit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can choose to remove words that add nothing to the analysis, by adding them to the list of stop words.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Order the codes by the number of counts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set options on how to categorise words in the response<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Auto category variable and word clouds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating an Analysis Cloud automatically adds an Auto Category variable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>  In the Survey Overview, open the&nbsp;survey required. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Click <strong>Analysis Cloud<\/strong>\u00a0   <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-6290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/analysiscloudicon-png.png\" alt=\"AnalysisCloudIcon.png\">   \u00a0on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar. This opens the Analysis Definition window to create a word cloud. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   In <strong>Analysis<\/strong>, enter the question name. The Auto Category variable, named AV.Q7, was automatically created when you saved the Analysis Cloud. This is shown in the list of analysis variables.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"786\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/AnVars.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/AnVars.png 786w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/AnVars-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/AnVars-768x308.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 786px) 100vw, 786px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Editing the Auto Category variable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You are able to edit most of the settings in the Auto Category variable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   Click <strong>Analysis Variables<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-3022\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/analysisvariablesicon-png-2.png\" alt=\"AnalysisVariablesIcon.png\">   on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar. This opens the Analysis Variables window. All the Auto Category variables have the <strong>Method <\/strong>&#8220;AutoCategory Variable&#8221; in the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double-click the Auto Category variable that you wish to edit. This opens the Auto Category Variable Details window.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"986\" height=\"464\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/autocat1-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/autocat1-1.png 986w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/autocat1-1-300x141.png 300w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/autocat1-1-768x361.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 986px) 100vw, 986px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>If any analysis depends on the variable then the name is read-only, otherwise you can edit the name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changing the <strong>Source <\/strong>question may change the name, if any analysis uses the original Auto Category variable. This creates a new Auto Category variable when you save.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limit codes<\/strong> sets the maximum number of codes for use, for example, a word cloud analysis will show the top 25 most commonly used words. Categories that are outside the limit codes setting appear with the category number in brackets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>With Other<\/strong> groups the codes outside the <strong>Limit codes<\/strong> setting. For example, if <strong>Limit codes<\/strong> is 25, only the top 25 codes are shown and the remaining codes are grouped in the category \u2018Other\u2019. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Order by counts<\/strong> to order the codes by the number of times they occur in the responses. You can also sort the categories by clicking on the column header.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-3025\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/saveicon-png-26.png\" alt=\"SaveIcon.png\">    to save your changes. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Include or exclude categories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   Open the <strong>Auto Category Variable Details<\/strong> window.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Change codes<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"27\" height=\"21\" class=\"wp-image-3019\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ch_codes.png\" alt=\"ch_codes\">  to display the <strong>Include <\/strong>column. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"611\" height=\"428\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/autocategory3-png.png\" alt=\"Including codes in the Auto Category variable details\" class=\"wp-image-3020\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/autocategory3-png.png 611w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/autocategory3-png-300x210.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 611px) 100vw, 611px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>   Clear <strong>Include <\/strong>to exclude the code or select it to include the code in the analysis, such as a word cloud. The excluded code moves to the bottom of the list. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Click  <strong>Save<\/strong>  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-3021\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/saveicon-png-25.png\" alt=\"SaveIcon.png\">    to save the changes. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stopping unwanted words <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When a respondent enters a comment, the response often includes common words, such as &#8216;the&#8217; or &#8216;and&#8217;.  The default stop words list includes many of these words, which means they will not appear in the Auto Category variable or the word cloud. You can add your own stop words and you can also choose to include any of the default stop words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the&nbsp;<strong>Stop words&nbsp;<\/strong>button to open the&nbsp;<strong>Stop Words<\/strong>&nbsp;dialog where you can add stop words or allow a default stop word.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"390\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/stop-words-dialog.png\" alt=\"Stop Words dialog\" class=\"wp-image-2671\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>In&nbsp;<strong>Stop words<\/strong>, type any words you wish to exclude. Use spaces to separate the words.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Allow stopped words<\/strong>, type any words from the <strong>Default stop words<\/strong> that you wish to include. Use spaces to separate the words. This is only relevant when using the Default stops words list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clear the <strong>Use<\/strong> checkbox if you do not want to use the <strong>Default stop words<\/strong> list. The default is to use the <strong>Default stop words<\/strong> list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>&nbsp;to save your changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can choose different ways of categorizing the multiple response or open-ended questions by selecting different options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the Options button. This opens the Auto category Options dialog.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"373\" height=\"256\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/autocategory2-png.png\" alt=\"Auto category options\" class=\"wp-image-3017\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/autocategory2-png.png 373w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/autocategory2-png-300x206.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>In the <strong>Multi Choice<\/strong> section, select <strong>Separate Codes<\/strong> to treat each code in the response as separate, otherwise the codes are categorized as a group.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Case Sensitive<\/strong> if you want the same word entered in different cases to be in a different category, otherwise make sure this is clear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Separate Words <\/strong>unless you know that there will be common phrases (e.g., zip codes) that you wish to use as codes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Customise Delimiters<\/strong> if you want to specify the delimiters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to save the options.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating an Auto category variable for a chart<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An Auto Category Variable can also be used as the source variable for a standard chart such as a bar chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create the Auto Category Variable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>   Click <strong>Analysis Variables<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-3013\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/analysisvariablesicon-png-1.png\" alt=\"AnalysisVariablesIcon.png\"> to show the list of Analysis Variables. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Click <strong>New Analysis Variables Item<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-3015\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/newsurveyicon-png-22.png\" alt=\"NewSurveyIcon.png\">  on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar then select <strong>New<\/strong> <strong>Auto Category Variable<\/strong> from the list. This opens the  <strong>Auto Category Variable Details<\/strong> dialog. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Name<\/strong>, enter a name for the Auto category variable. In this example, the name is AVQ4a as the source question is Q4a.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Source<\/strong>, enter the source question. This determines the number of bars in the chart. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>  Check <strong>Order by counts<\/strong> to order from the highest to lowest number of counts. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Click  <strong>Save<\/strong>  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-3021\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/saveicon-png-25.png\" alt=\"SaveIcon.png\">    to save the Auto Category Variable. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create the Analysis Chart<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click <strong>Analysis Chart<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-6662\" style=\"width: 26px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/analysischarticon-png-2.png\" alt=\"AnalysisChartIcon.png\"> on the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar.
