{"id":2861,"date":"2020-10-20T15:50:33","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T14:50:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/?post_type=epkb_post_type_1&#038;p=2861"},"modified":"2022-01-17T15:48:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-17T15:48:05","slug":"using-significance","status":"publish","type":"epkb_post_type_1","link":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/using-significance\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Significance (t-test) in tables"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n  The Significance (t-test)<strong> <\/strong>allows us to compare the significance of the mean of each column of data with the significance of the mean of the base.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  For example, in the Crocodile Rock Cafe survey it might be required to see whether there is a significant difference in perception of speed of service between different age groups.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n  Click \n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2862\" alt=\"AnalysisTblIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/analysistblicon-png-21.png\">\n   to open the analysis Definition dialog to build a table.\n<\/li><li>\n  Specify the Analysis variable for the table as Q6c (Rating of Parking).\n<\/li><li>\n  Specify the Break variable for the table as Q11 (Age range).\n<\/li><li>\n  Click the <strong>Summary Statistics<\/strong> tab.\n<\/li><li>\n  Select Significance (t-test) in the Available column and click on the <strong>&gt;<\/strong> button to move the option into the Used column.\n<\/li><li>\n  Select <strong>Mean <\/strong>and click on <strong>&gt;<\/strong> to move it into the Used column.\n<\/li><li>\n  Specify <strong>Score5 <\/strong>as the score. (<strong>Score5<\/strong> is the name given to a <strong>Weight<\/strong> \n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2863\" alt=\"WeightsIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/weightsicon-png-5.png\">\n   created in the Crocodile Rock Cafe survey.)\n<\/li><li>\n  Click<strong> OK <\/strong>to build the table.\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"482\" height=\"341\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/meanscores13-png.png\" alt=\"Table showing mean and significance values\" class=\"wp-image-2864\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  The table shows the counts and percentages of each age group against the rating of speed of service. It also shows the mean rating of speed of service as specified by each age group, and the <strong>t-test <\/strong>(significance of the mean) in each category compared with the <strong>t-test <\/strong>(significance of the mean) of the base. The significance is shown as a percentage, so if we use the 95% and 99% significance levels as our markers we can see that the under 18s and 35-44 age groups have highly significant results, which means these results are likely to be repeatable in other surveys.
