{"id":2767,"date":"2020-10-20T10:37:29","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T09:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/?post_type=epkb_post_type_1&#038;p=2767"},"modified":"2022-01-17T16:02:38","modified_gmt":"2022-01-17T16:02:38","slug":"using-weights","status":"publish","type":"epkb_post_type_1","link":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/using-weights\/","title":{"rendered":"Using weights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>   A Weight may be used in several different ways: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n    To create means in mean score tables \n  <\/li><li>\n    To count items other than respondents, such as, amounts of money\n  <\/li><li>\n    To change the proportions\/balance of a sample group\n  <\/li><li>\n    To increase\/decrease the size of a sample group\n  <\/li><li>\n    As part of a calculation\n  <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Multiple Response<\/strong> variables cannot be weighted and you cannot use more than one <strong>Weight<\/strong> in a table.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  When tables have weights applied to them, and statistics produced, such as significances and confidence intervals, they are calculated using the weighted data not the unweighted.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-2767-_Toc35499239\"><\/a>Defining a weight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  Weights consist of a series of codes. They should have the same number of codes as the variable that you are applying the weight to. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n  Click \n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2768\" alt=\"WeightsIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/weightsicon-png.png\">\n   to display the Weights window.\n<\/li><li>\n  Click \n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2769\" alt=\"NewSurveyIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/newsurveyicon-png-2.png\">\n   to add a new weight or \n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2770\" alt=\"VariablePropsIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/variablepropsicon-png-2.png\">\n   on the <strong>Weights <\/strong>window toolbar to display the <strong>Weight Details<\/strong> dialog for an existing weight.\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  The image below shows a weight used to transform a five-code rating score into positive and negative values.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"496\" height=\"254\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/weights1-png.png\" alt=\"Weight details dialog\" class=\"wp-image-2771\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\"><li>\n  Enter a unique name in the <strong>Name <\/strong>field.\n<\/li><li>\n  Enter a description of your weight in the <strong>Label <\/strong>field.\n<\/li><li>\n  Enter the number of decimal places used in a calculation in the <strong>Decimal places<\/strong> field.\n<\/li><li>\n  Enter the <strong>Value <\/strong>for each code in your weight. (Press <strong>Tab<\/strong> to create a new code). If you wish to exclude a variable code from the weighting, (e.g.&#8221;Don&#8217;t Know&#8221;) set its value to <strong>NA<\/strong>. \n<\/li><li>\n  Click \n  <img loading=\"lazy\"
