{"id":2712,"date":"2020-10-16T11:05:06","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T10:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/?post_type=epkb_post_type_1&#038;p=2712"},"modified":"2023-03-09T13:25:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T13:25:12","slug":"creating-map-using-graphic","status":"publish","type":"epkb_post_type_1","link":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/creating-map-using-graphic\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating a Map showing age group data using graphics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n  This example describes how to show a ratings scale by age, with the age data conveyed in the graphic, and the satisfaction statistics displayed by color.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  It uses the questions available in the Crocodile Rock Cafe survey.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adding graphics to represent each age group<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n  Create an image representing the different age groups used to classify respondents. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"425\" height=\"212\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/graphic-showing-available-age-ranges.png\" alt=\"Graphic showing available age ranges\" class=\"wp-image-2713\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  In the Crocodile survey, these are:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><p>\n  Under 18\n<\/p><\/td><td><p>\n  18 &#8211; 24\n<\/p><\/td><td><p>\n  25 &#8211; 34\n<\/p><\/td><td><p>\n  35 &#8211; 44\n<\/p><\/td><td><p>\n  45 &#8211; 54\n<\/p><\/td><td><p>\n  Over 55\n<\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>   Ensure that you have enough space to display the analysis data on the image. The size of the image will be the size of your Map. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Save the image file in a known place (eg styles\/map\/age_pic.gif) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click    <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2714\" alt=\"AnalysisTblIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/analysistblicon-png-8.png\">    to define the analysis.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enter Q9 (age) in the <strong>Analysis <\/strong>field.   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Means and Significances<\/strong> in the drop-down list. Enter Q6a (speed of service satisfaction rating) in the field for the variable for which the mean is calculated.  (If you wished to score the mean, you would enter the score in the field after the variable name, e.g. q6.a score5). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click<strong> OK <\/strong>to save the table. Keep the window open for reference while creating your Map. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Select the table in the <strong>Analyses <\/strong>window and click    <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"23\" height=\"20\" class=\"wp-image-2715\" alt=\"Clone button\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/clone-button.png\">   on the toolbar to duplicate the analysis. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Select Map in the <strong>Type <\/strong>list. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Select <strong>&lt;Create new style&gt;<\/strong> from the dropdown list of styles. The Map Control Editor opens.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Select <strong>File|Import image<\/strong> and browse for the image you have created. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>   Click    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"23\" height=\"22\" class=\"wp-image-2716\" alt=\"IM: square button\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/im-square-button.gif\">   to select the square tool, and draw a square under one of your figures.  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"429\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-map-editor-for-analysis-showing-age-figures.png\" alt=\"Map editor for analysis showing age figures\" class=\"wp-image-2717\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"11\">\n<li>\n  Use <strong>Copy <\/strong>and <strong>Paste <\/strong>to duplicate the square until there is one under each figure.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Select each square in turn and select <strong>Shape|Assign to code. <\/strong>Select the appropriate code for the figure. (You can also right-click the shape and assign codes from the context menu.)\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"476\" height=\"453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/im-assigning-code-to-an-age-code-image.png\" alt=\"Assigning code to an age code image\" class=\"wp-image-2718\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  As you assign codes, the analysis data will automatically be calculated and used to fill the square.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-2712-_Toc35499187\"><\/a>Assigning RGB colors and legends for the least and most satisfied age groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n  Click \n  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"23\" height=\"22\" class=\"wp-image-2719\" alt=\"IM: Fill button\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/im-fill-button-2.gif\">\n  to open the Map Control Editor <strong>Fill series<\/strong> dialog. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/mapcontrol3-1-png.png\" alt=\"Set the shading for the map control\" class=\"wp-image-2720\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>\n  Select <strong>RGB <\/strong>as the color model. This means that intermediate colors will be calculated as if you were moving round the colors in a rainbow.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Select <strong>Continuous<\/strong> as the <strong>Data Mode<\/strong>. This means that every value will be assigned a color according to its data value.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click the color buttons to assign colors to represent the maximum and minimum values. \n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Select <strong>Legend <\/strong>in the left-hand pane.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/mapcontrol3-2-png.png\" alt=\"Set the location of the labels in a map control\" class=\"wp-image-2721\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li>\n  Check the <strong>Visible <\/strong>box to display the Legend, and select one of the radio buttons to position it.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  Click the <strong>Labels <\/strong>tab.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n  You will have the same number of labels fields as colors listed in the <strong>Shading <\/strong>window. By default the text for each color is the value it represents.
