{"id":2339,"date":"2020-09-03T09:49:47","date_gmt":"2020-09-03T08:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/?post_type=epkb_post_type_1&#038;p=2339"},"modified":"2025-02-07T09:12:45","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T09:12:45","slug":"moving-surveys-from-snap-11-to-snap-xmp","status":"publish","type":"epkb_post_type_1","link":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/moving-surveys-from-snap-11-to-snap-xmp\/","title":{"rendered":"Moving your existing surveys from Snap 11 to Snap XMP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This worksheet covers the steps required to transfer your Snap 11 surveys to online surveys in Snap XMP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Snap XMP<\/strong> consists of three products:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Snap XMP Desktop<\/strong> is the latest version of Snap Surveys\u2019 Windows based software.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Snap XMP Online<\/strong> is the new web based product that lets you build and run surveys from your web browser.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interviewer<\/strong> is an offline survey app that lets you run an online survey, without the need for a reliable internet connection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the process of moving onto using Snap XMP you will need to transfer your existing Snap 11 surveys to the latest version of the software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-2339-o20590\"><\/a>Background<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Snap XMP Desktop there are two types of survey; online surveys and offline surveys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online surveys are surveys that are available in both Snap XMP Desktop and Snap XMP Online. They can be organised in folders that are shown in both applications. The online surveys are kept up to date and the response data synchronized between the two applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Offline surveys are surveys that are available in Snap XMP Desktop only. All existing surveys from Snap 11 are available in Offline surveys in the Survey Overview window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your Snap XMP Online account must be set up before you can use online surveys in Snap XMP Desktop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Upgrade Paths<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have archived your survey there are a number of different upgrade paths depending on how you would like to run your surveys. Please choose from the following<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For an inactive survey that is no longer in use please use <a href=\"#post-2339-_Archiving_and_deleting\">Archiving and deleting a survey that is no longer in use<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For an active paper survey or an active scanning survey with no online editions please use <a href=\"#post-2339-_Upgrading_to_a\">Upgrading to a Snap XMP Desktop Offline survey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For an active online survey with or without a paper edition please use <a href=\"#post-2339-_Upgrading_to_a_1\">Upgrading to a Snap XMP Desktop Online survey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For an active online survey with a database of participants please use <a href=\"#post-2339-_Upgrading_to_a_1\">Upgrading to a Snap XMP Desktop Online survey<\/a> followed by <a href=\"#post-2339-_Running_the_DB\">Running the database link or using Snap XMP Online participants<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Archiving and deleting an inactive survey that is no longer in use<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We highly recommended that you archive the Snap 11 survey prior to upgrading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inactive surveys that you no longer use can be archived and then deleted. The survey can be restored if you need to access the survey at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary of Steps<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"#post-2339-_Step_1:_Archiving\">Archiving the survey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#post-2339-_Step_2:_Deleting\">Deleting the survey<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Archiving the survey<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Highlight the survey you wish to archive in the <strong>Survey Overview <\/strong>window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2340\" alt=\"ArchiveIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/archiveicon-png.png\"> to access the <strong>Archive Survey<\/strong> dialog.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"370\" height=\"159\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/archivesurveydlg-png.png\" alt=\"Archive the survey\" class=\"wp-image-2341\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>Snap will automatically generate a default file name and path, you can change these by clicking <strong>Browse<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Options<\/strong>, select <strong>Include Raw Data<\/strong> to archive the raw data (.rdf file) as well. (If you select the raw data option, then this includesthe archive file , with extension .snpdf.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have archived the survey on an earlier occasion, you will be asked whether you want to replace it. Click <strong>Yes<\/strong> to replace the file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> on the confirmation message.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deleting the survey<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have archived your survey you can now delete the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the <strong>Survey Overview<\/strong> window, select the survey you want to delete.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2342\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/deletesurveyicon-png.png\" alt=\"DeleteSurveyIcon.png\"><\/strong> <strong>Delete Survey<\/strong>. The Snap 11 surveys have a status <strong><em>Needs upgrade (Snap 11)<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"738\" height=\"249\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/surveyoverviewoffline3-png.png\" alt=\"Survey overview window showing the offline surveys\" class=\"wp-image-2347\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>If you can\u2019t find the survey you want to transfer to Snap XMP, click <strong>Browse<\/strong> to locate your Snap 11 survey. When you find the folder containing the survey, select it and click open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Survey Overview window, select the Snap 11 survey that you want to transfer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Enter<\/strong> or double click the survey. Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to open the upgraded questionnaire. In the Survey Overview window the survey status shows blank rather than <strong><em>Needs upgrade (Snap 11)<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-2339-_Upgrading_to_a_1\"><\/a>Upgrading to a Snap XMP Desktop Online survey<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary of Steps<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"#post-2339-_Step_1:_Archiving_2\">Archiving the survey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#post-2339-_Step_1:_Creating\">Creating a folder to help organise the online surveys<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#post-2339-_Step_2:_Browse\">Browse to the location of the Snap 11 offline survey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#post-2339-_Step_3:_Clone\">Clone the Snap 11 survey as a new online survey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#post-2339-_Step_4:_Using\">Using the online survey<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Archiving the survey<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommended that you archive the Snap 11 survey prior to upgrading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are upgrading a live survey that is using WebHost we recommend that, where possible, you wait until there is break in interviewing or the survey is closed before upgrading to Snap XMP Desktop. If this is not possible then we recommend upgrading at a time when fewer people are accessing the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that when upgrading, the URL links for the survey will change for the survey when upgrading from WebHost to Snap XMP Online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prior to archiving and upgrading the survey, pause interviewing in Snap WebHost and download all the response data into Snap 11. Creating your folders first allows you to create or transfer your online surveys to the place you want straight away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the Snap XMP Desktop toolbar, click <strong>Survey Overview<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/surveyoverviewicon-png.png\" alt=\"SurveyOverviewIcon.png\"> which opens the Survey Overview window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the Survey Overview toolbar, click <strong>Online Surveys<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" class=\"wp-image-2352\" alt=\"5.OnlineSurveysIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/5-onlinesurveysicon-png.png\"> to show the online surveys. When you find the folder containing the surveys, select it and click open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Survey Overview window, select the Snap 11 survey that you want to transfer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clone the Snap 11 survey as a new online survey<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the Survey Overview toolbar, click <strong>Clone<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2359\" alt=\"CloneSurveyIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/clonesurveyicon-png.png\"> to create a copy of the Snap 11 survey. This copy is used to transfer your Snap 11 survey to the Snap XMP format, leaving the original Snap 11 survey untouched.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Clone Survey dialog, select <strong>Online surveys<\/strong> to create the clone as an online survey. Select <strong>Also clone the raw data,<\/strong> if you want to transfer the survey with a copy of all the raw response data.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"265\" height=\"182\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/clonesurveydlg-png.png\" alt=\"Clone survey dialog with red boxes highlighting Online Survey and Also clone the raw data\" class=\"wp-image-2360\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>Click<strong> OK<\/strong> to open the New Online Survey dialog. In the New Online Survey dialog, you can change the name of the survey and select the folder location for your online survey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the survey name, if required (for example, Crocodile XMP).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the folder where you want your survey to go (for example, Demo Surveys, the folder created in Step 1).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"313\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/newonlinesurveydlg-png.png\" alt=\"New Online Survey dialog with red boxes highlighting the Name and Location\" class=\"wp-image-2361\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li>Click<strong> OK<\/strong>. You will see an information bar while the survey is cloned. When you log into your account on Snap XMP Online you can see the new folder and cloned survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-2339-_Running_the_DB\"><\/a>Running the database link or using Snap XMP Online participants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have set up participants, invitations and\/or seeded data for your survey you will need to run the database link. This will generate the participant and invitation data for the online survey making it available in <strong>Snap XMP Online<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select <strong>File | Database Link<\/strong> to display the <strong>Database Links<\/strong> dialog box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the link that you want to run.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"595\" height=\"283\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-databaselinksdialog-png.png\" alt=\"Database links dialog showing an online survey link\" class=\"wp-image-2364\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>Click <strong>Run<\/strong> to generate the new participant data. The <strong>Run Database Link <\/strong>dialog appears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Participants and Seeding<\/strong> choose <strong>Replace all participants<\/strong> to load all the participants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Invites and Reminders<\/strong> choose <strong>Define or replace<\/strong> to load the invitations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK <\/strong>to load the participant data.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also use Snap XMP Online to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/managing-your-participants\/\" target=\"_blank\"
