{"id":2019,"date":"2020-07-16T12:04:09","date_gmt":"2020-07-16T11:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/?post_type=epkb_post_type_1&#038;p=2019"},"modified":"2024-03-04T20:45:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T20:45:18","slug":"exporting-data-to-another-program","status":"publish","type":"epkb_post_type_1","link":"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/exporting-data-to-another-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Exporting data to another program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Data can be exported from Snap Desktop then imported into another software program such as a statistical package, a spreadsheet package such as Microsoft Excel or word processing package such as Microsoft Word for further analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>On the main toolbar, click <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-2020\" alt=\"DataEntryIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dataentryicon-png-6.png\"> to open the <strong>Data Entry <\/strong>window.<\/li><li>Select the menu option <strong>File | Export <\/strong>to display the <strong>Data Export <\/strong>dialog box.<\/li><li>Specify the <strong>Format<\/strong> for the exported data. This will depend on the requirements of the package that the data is destined for. The available formats are<ul><li>Comma separated (CSV)<\/li><li>Tab separated (TSV)<\/li><li>Excel (CSV)<\/li><li>Plain text (TXT)<\/li><li>There is a database link option available for data export that opens the <strong>Database Linkage Wizard <\/strong>at the import or export stage, as appropriate.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"383\" height=\"347\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dataexport-png.png\" alt=\"Data Export dialog used to export data responses to a file\" class=\"wp-image-2021\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dataexport-png.png 383w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dataexport-png-300x272.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li>Specify the <strong>Destination<\/strong> for the data report as either <strong>File<\/strong> or <strong>Clipboard<\/strong>. The <strong>Clipboard<\/strong> provides the most straightforward method of output and will be suitable for most surveys. However if there is a very large number of cases the computer may not have enough memory to hold all the required data on the clipboard in which case the file option should be used.<\/li><li>Specify the <strong>Content<\/strong> as the name of the variable or variables to be printed. You can enter:<ul><li>Individual questions (e.g. Q4a)<\/li><li>List of questions (e.g. Q1,Q3)<\/li><li>Range of questions (e.g. Q1 TO Q3)<\/li><li>Informative text strings enclosed in single quotes e.g., &#8216;My report&#8217;.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Leaving the <strong>Content<\/strong> field blank will include all data in for each case that meets the <strong>Filter Specification<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select <strong>Expand Multiples<\/strong> if you wish to place each multiple response code in a separate column on export.<\/li><li>Select <strong>Responses Only<\/strong> to omit derived variables. (This will export all user responses, including paradata.)<\/li><li>Select whether you want the exported data to overwrite an existing file of data or append the exported data to the current one. The default setting is to overwrite.<\/li><li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>. The data is exported to the clipboard or specified file.
