You must :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consider what response type is needed for each data type in the spreadsheet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the columns in your spreadsheet match variables in your survey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a column for each possible response for a multiple response variable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure you have a header row as the first row in the spreadsheet with the variable names corresponding to each column&#8217;s contents. The header for each column for a multiple response variable should be in the format Variable name<strong>:<\/strong>code (e.g. Q12:3 )<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Import the spreadsheet data into the data window of the Snap survey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Build an analysis table to check that the spreadsheet data has been interpreted as expected.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The example below describes importing <strong>Comma Separated<\/strong> data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prepare the spreadsheet<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Inspect the spreadsheet and determine an appropriate <strong>Response Type<\/strong> for each column.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In the example shown:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td> Age (column 1) <\/td><td> Quantity response <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Gender (column 2) <\/td><td> Single response <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Country (column 3) <\/td><td> Single response <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Rating (column 4) <\/td><td> Quantity response <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Product purchase (column 5) <\/td><td> Single response <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"443\" height=\"293\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/example-of-an-excel-spreadsheet.png\" alt=\"Example of an Excel spreadsheet used to import data\" class=\"wp-image-2012\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/example-of-an-excel-spreadsheet.png 443w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/example-of-an-excel-spreadsheet-300x198.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 443px) 100vw, 443px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>Dates should be associated with Snap <strong>Date response<\/strong> variables, time with the <strong>Time<\/strong> response variables and free text responses or other types of (non-numeric) data should be associated with the <strong>Literal<\/strong> response variables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the spreadsheet as a comma-separated (*.csv) or tab-separated (*.tsv or *.txt) file as appropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Create the survey variables<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This example uses data appropriate for the crocodile survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Snap Desktop, select the <strong>Data Entry Window<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>File | Import<\/strong> option. If you wish to replace the current data, you must first delete the current data file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the data has been imported, verify that all data has been interpreted correctly.
