The easiest way to do this is using a database link to import or export the data. <br>This method can be used to merge surveys:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As a precaution, archive your survey first before merging the data.<\/li><li>From the <strong>Survey Overview<\/strong> window, open the survey that you want to add data to.<\/li><li>On the main toolbar click <strong>Database Links<\/strong> <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"27\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-1993\" alt=\"DBLinksIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dblinksicon-png-2.png\"> to open the <strong>Database Links<\/strong> dialog.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"596\" height=\"282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dblinksdlg-png-4.png\" alt=\"DBLinksDlg.PNG\" class=\"wp-image-1994\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dblinksdlg-png-4.png 596w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dblinksdlg-png-4-300x142.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li>Click <strong>New<\/strong> to open the <strong>Database Linkage Wizard<\/strong> which guides you through the process of creating a new database link.<\/li><li>In the Linkage Type section, select <strong>Export from Snap Survey<\/strong> and then click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li><li>A list of all the surveys in the default directory is shown. Select the survey you want to import from and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>. (If the survey you require is not shown use the <strong>Browse <\/strong>button to find the appropriate directory.)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"575\" height=\"182\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/selectsurvey-png-1.png\" alt=\"SelectSurvey.PNG\" class=\"wp-image-1995\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/selectsurvey-png-1.png 575w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/selectsurvey-png-1-300x95.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"7\"><li>On the next page of the wizard select the type of <strong>Import\/Export<\/strong> option you want:<ul><li><strong>Join cases where the link variables match<\/strong><\/li><li>Only import\/export data where the value in the link variable matches between the two surveys (E.g. a survey containing customer ID numbers matches the information in the link survey with the same ID number.) This imports all requested data where two ID numbers are matched, and ignores all data in cases where the ID number does not match.<\/li><li><strong>Join matching cases and append unmatched cases<\/strong><\/li><li>This option works as above, and also adds the unmatched data as new cases at the end of the file.<\/li><li><strong>Append unmatched cases<\/strong><\/li><li>This option only imports\/exports cases that do not find a match between the link variable in the surveys.<\/li><li><strong>Append all cases<\/strong><\/li><li>This option imports\/exports every case of data into your survey as a new data case. It does not try to match the link variables.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Select the link variable in your current survey marked as <strong>This Survey<\/strong> and then select the variable containing the matching data in the <strong>Link Survey<\/strong> you are importing from. The link variables must contain a value that is unique for each case, and which matches between the two surveys. For example they could both be \u2018Customer ID\u2019 variables. (Link variables are also known as database keys).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"544\" height=\"171\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/importoptions-png-1.png\" alt=\"ImportOptions.PNG\" class=\"wp-image-1996\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/importoptions-png-1.png 544w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/importoptions-png-1-300x94.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"9\"><li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong> to move to a list of variables in the <strong>Link Survey<\/strong> to import from and variables in <strong>This Survey<\/strong> on the right. Map the variables between the surveys. The default mapping between the variables is shown, where possible. To change a mapping, select a row in the right hand column, and click to display a list of available variables in the <strong>Link Survey<\/strong>. Select a variable to load data from, or select blank to load nothing.<\/li><li>If you match variables with multiple responses, the possible responses are shown below the variable list. Match the responses in the same way as you match the variables. The example shows an extra code, <strong>Wine\/Beer<\/strong>, is an extra code in the survey that you are importing data to. You can assign <strong>Wine\/Beer<\/strong> to the <strong>Other<\/strong> code.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"575\" height=\"555\" class=\"wp-image-1997\" alt=\"MapQuestions2.PNG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/mapquestions2-png-1.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/mapquestions2-png-1.png 575w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/mapquestions2-png-1-300x290.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/> <br>You could also create a new code in the current survey for <strong>Wine\/Beer<\/strong> by right clicking the row and selecting <strong>New code<\/strong> from the context menu. <br>You can create a <strong>new variable<\/strong> to match an existing variable in the same way. Right-click in the right hand row, and select <strong>New variable<\/strong> from the context menu. To delete a link, click <strong>Delete<\/strong>. To make a copy of the link, click <strong>Clone<\/strong>, and then modify the new link as required.<\/li><li>Select the link and click <strong>Run<\/strong> to import the data. Snap displays a brief report. Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to close it.<\/li><li>Now you can check your data by looking at a summary of the results.
