Files are better for large amounts of data, but saving to the clipboard is quicker if the data size is small to medium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-1852-_Toc33623738\"><\/a>Exporting variables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the survey you wish to export the variables from<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-1853\" alt=\"VariablesIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variablesicon-png-17.png\"> to open the Variables window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the menu option <strong>File | Export<\/strong> to display the <strong>Variable Export dialog<\/strong> box. Specify the Format as Snap Interchange Format (SnIF).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"347\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variableexportdlg-png.png\" alt=\"Variable export dialog\" class=\"wp-image-1854\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variableexportdlg-png.png 347w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variableexportdlg-png-300x259.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 347px) 100vw, 347px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>Set the <strong>Destination<\/strong> as Clipboard. If you are saving a very large amount of data, you may need to save to a file instead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Content <\/strong>field, specify the names of the variables to be exported, for example, N4, Q6a to Q6e.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to export the selected variables. A confirmation message appears to show that the export process is completed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If you select the <strong>Include source variables<\/strong> option, variables which are associated with those listed in the <strong>Filter<\/strong> field are exported as well. For example, if you exported a derived variable and selected <strong>Include source variables<\/strong>, then the original variable(s) that form the basis of the derived variable would be exported as well. The same applies to variables containing routing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-1852-_Toc33623739\"><\/a>Importing variables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the survey that you wish to add the variables to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-1855\" alt=\"VariablesIcon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variablesicon-png-18.png\"> to open the <strong>Variables<\/strong> window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the menu option <strong>File | Import<\/strong> to display the <strong>Variable Import<\/strong> dialog box.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"347\" height=\"248\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variable-data-import-dialog.png\" alt=\"Variable data import dialog\" class=\"wp-image-1856\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variable-data-import-dialog.png 347w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variable-data-import-dialog-300x214.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 347px) 100vw, 347px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>Set the <strong>Source<\/strong> to the place where you exported your variables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the options <strong>Generate new variable names<\/strong> and <strong>Generate new variable positions<\/strong> to ensure that you do not overwrite any existing variables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The new variables will be added to the survey with the original label, length and sequence.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You can move questions between surveys without putting them in a SurveyPak by exporting them from one survey and importing them into another survey.
