Backing up your survey and the data responses is an essential part of managing your surveys and helps to prevent loss of data in case of any problems. Backups of surveys created in Snap XMP Desktop can be performed with or without the response data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Back-ups of a survey and its response data are done using the Archive and Restore option in the Survey Overview window. Archive creates a back-up of the selected survey. Archived surveys are stored in files with the extension .adf (A<\/strong>rchived D<\/strong>ata F<\/strong>ile). Restore uses the archived survey file to create or update a survey with the backed-up version.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archive and Restore are only available for offline surveys. When backing-up an online survey it must be cloned as an offline survey first. Further details of cloning are available at Cloning a survey<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archiving a survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Both online and offline surveys can be archived. An archive file (.adf) is created and saved to the archive file name entered. You can choose to archive the survey with or without the raw response data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Open the Survey Overview<\/strong> \"SurveyOverviewIcon.png\" window on the main Snap XMP Desktop toolbar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. On the Survey Overview toolbar, click Online Surveys<\/strong> \"OnlineSurveysIcon.png\" to show the online surveys or click Offline Surveys<\/strong> \"6.OfflineSurveysIcon.png\" to show the offline surveys. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. If you can\u2019t find the survey you want to move, click Browse<\/strong> to locate your offline survey. When you find the folder containing the survey, select it and click open. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. In the Survey Overview window, select the survey that you want to archive. For an offline survey, if the survey is not in the list, click Browse<\/strong> to locate your offline survey. When you find the folder containing the survey, select it and click open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. For online surveys, right-click to show the pop-up menu and select Archive <\/strong>or for offline surveys, click Archive<\/strong> \"ArchiveIcon.png\" on the Survey Overview toolbar. This opens the Archive Survey<\/strong> dialog. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      1. \n A default file name and path are automatically generated. You can change these by entering a new file name or clicking Browse<\/strong> to locate a file.<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. \n In Options<\/strong>, select Include Raw Data<\/strong> to archive the raw response data. The archive file will include both the survey and raw response data.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. \n If you have archived the survey before, you are asked whether you want to replace it. Click Yes<\/strong> to replace the file. \n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. \n A message confirming the survey has been archived is displayed. Click OK<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        <\/a><\/a><\/a>Restoring an offline survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        All archived survey files are restored as an offline survey. The restored survey can then be cloned as an online survey, if required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          4. \n The Archive File Name defaults to the last archive file name used<\/strong>. If this is not the correct file, click Browse<\/strong> to find the required archive file. \n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          5. \n Select Survey Definitions<\/strong> to restore the survey. Select Raw Data <\/strong>to restore the response data. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            1. \n Click OK<\/strong>. If the survey already exists in the current directory, select which action to carry out. Rename<\/strong>, to create a new copy of the survey; Overwrite<\/strong> to overwrite the existing survey and Cancel<\/strong> to return to the Restore survey<\/strong> dialog.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              1. \n A confirmation message is shown when the survey has been restored from the archive. Click OK<\/strong> to finish. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                Cloning an offline survey as an online survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                \n Only complete this step if you are restoring an archive of an online survey.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                1. \n On the Survey Overview<\/strong> toolbar, click Offline Surveys<\/strong> \n \"6.OfflineSurveysIcon.png\"\n to show the offline surveys.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                2. \n On the Survey Overview<\/strong> toolbar, click Clone<\/strong> \n \"CloneSurveyIcon.png\"\n to create a copy of the offline survey. This copy is used to move your offline survey to an online survey, leaving the original offline survey untouched.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                3. \n In the Clone Survey<\/strong> dialog, select Online surveys<\/strong> to create the clone as an online survey. Select Also clone the raw data,<\/strong> if you want to transfer the survey with a copy of all the raw response data.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                  1. \n Click OK<\/strong> and the New Online Survey dialog is displayed. In the New Online Survey dialog, you can change the name of the survey and select the folder location for your online survey.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  2. \n Enter the survey name, if required.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  3. \n Select the folder where your online survey will go.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                    1. \n Click OK<\/strong>. An information bar is displayed while the survey is cloned. Once complete the Survey Overview window switches to the online survey view with the new survey selected.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
