They are all available for use in Snap XMP Desktop. We have developed a sample questionnaire that shows the different question styles. You can use <a href=\"https:\/\/online1.snapsurveys.com\/interview\/39c94d38-9f9f-4f08-94b5-1e43737f504a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this questionnaire<\/a> to see how the questions behave in a live interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choosing a question style in Design mode<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you are designing the questionnaire in the Questionnaire window, the question style drop-down list shows the most used styles, and a &#8220;More Styles&#8221; entry at the end of the list. Click this to open the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/using-the-style-picker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Style Picker<\/a><\/strong>, which contains a list of all the available styles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also access the list by clicking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/using-the-style-picker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Style Picker<\/strong> <\/a><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"27\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-6948\" style=\"width: 27px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/stylepickericon-png.png\" alt=\"StylePickerIcon.png\"> on the Questionnaire toolbar. The Style Picker tool is an easy way of applying a question style to questions in your questionnaire. This tool is only available in <strong>Design<\/strong> mode <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"27\" class=\"wp-image-1543\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/designmodeicon-png-27.png\" alt=\"DesignModeIcon.png\"> . <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-1542-_Toc33623698\"><\/a>Temporary Question Styles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Changes made to a question in <strong>Design Mode<\/strong> <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"27\" class=\"wp-image-1546\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/designmodeicon-png-28.png\" alt=\"DesignModeIcon.png\"> will create a new temporary style called<strong> &#8220;like&#8221; <\/strong>followed by the original style name. For example, when you change the style of an Open Ended question, the question changes to &#8220;<strong>like Open Ended<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can select the type of styles you would like to view in the preview window, by selecting from &#8216;All Styles&#8217;, &#8216;All Variables&#8217;, &#8216;Named Styles&#8217;, &#8216;Unused Styles&#8217; or &#8216;Used Styles&#8217; in the <strong>Style<\/strong> drop-down list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-1542-_Toc33623699\"><\/a>Using Style mode to modify question styles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Style<\/strong> mode <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-1547\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/stylemodeicon-png-9.png\" alt=\"StyleModeIcon.png\"> allows you to make modifications to the styles, whereas <strong>Design<\/strong> mode allows you to modify the individual questions. <strong>Style<\/strong> mode allows you to make consistent changes to all questions of the same style, without having to make individual question changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-1542-_Toc33623700\"><\/a>The style selection box<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"522\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/styleselectionbar2-png.png\" alt=\"Style selection bar in Style mode\" class=\"wp-image-1549\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/styleselectionbar2-png.png 522w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/styleselectionbar2-png-300x145.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 522px) 100vw, 522px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td> Style Selection Box <\/td><td> Description <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Multi Choice <\/td><td> Changes will apply to the selected question and all other questions that use the same style as the selected question. In addition, any styles that are derived from the style of the selected question where settings still remain the same will adopt the changes. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> All &#8216;Multi Choice&#8217; styles&#8217; <\/td><td> Settings will apply to the selected question and all other questions that use the same style as the selected question. In addition, the settings will apply to any questions that use styles derived from the current style. For example, \u201clike multi choice\u201d questions will also change. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> All styles <\/td><td> Settings will apply to all styles. The settings will be stored as the default style settings. <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The following rules explains how styles affect other questions according to the value selected in the style selection box:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>questions that use the same <strong>Style<\/strong> as the highlighted question also change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>questions that are not based on the <strong>Style<\/strong> of the highlighted question do not change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>questions whose <strong>Style<\/strong> is based on the selected question&#8217;s style only change if the attribute that changed had the same value in both styles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Based on Styles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all styles behave in the same way when changes are made; some Styles are based on others. In addition to the ten pre-set styles, there is a Default style that is considered the parent style for five of the pre-set styles: Multi Choice, Grid First, Open Ended, Open First, Title and Instruction. In the same way, Title is the parent style for Sub Title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ten pre-set styles are Grid First, Grid Next, Instruction, Multi Choice, Open Ended, Open First, Open Next, Other, Sub Title, and Title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All <strong>Styles<\/strong> derive from the default, either directly or through other styles as the diagram shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/https-www-snapsurveys-com-help-styles-png.png\" alt=\"Diagram showing the question styles supplied with Snap Desktop\" class=\"wp-image-1550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/https-www-snapsurveys-com-help-styles-png.png 650w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/https-www-snapsurveys-com-help-styles-png-300x180.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"post-1542-_Toc33623701\"><\/a>Style attributes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each <strong>Style<\/strong> has <strong>Style Attributes<\/strong> which affects a number of different question elements. You can either set the value of each attribute, or it can inherit its value from other styles. You can change the location or format of each element in the questionnaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>Element<\/th><th>Description<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td> Answer Area <\/td><td> The background area around the answer box and label. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Box Area <\/td><td> The area around the answer code box.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code Box <\/td><td>The checkbox for a multi- or single-response closed question or the text box for an open-ended question.<span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-weight: inherit; color: initial;\"> <\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code GoTo <\/td><td>Space for questionnaire routing instructions based on a response to the question. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code Gutter <\/td><td> The spacing between columns, used with the Tabs and Background topics. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code Label <\/td><td> The text describing a response for a question. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code Leader <\/td><td> Markings between the Code Label and the Code Box to show their association, used in paper editions only.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code Offset <\/td><td> The space to the left of the answer code, used with the Tabs and Background topics. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code Value <\/td><td> The numerical value assigned to a response. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Code Verge <\/td><td> The space to the right of the answer code box, used with the Tabs and Background topics. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Footnote <\/td><td> A box located below or beside each question, used to display additional text. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Grid Label <\/td><td> The text describing a grid row. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Grid Leader <\/td><td> Markings between the Grid Label and the Grid Box to show their association, used in paper editions only.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Grid Name <\/td><td> The number of the grid row. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Line Before <\/td><td> A line inserted before a question, used with the Show topic. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Name <\/td><td> The question number in the questionnaire. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Open Label <\/td><td> The space used for the code label on open questions, used with the Tabs and Background topic. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Question Area <\/td><td> The background area around the question text, used with the Background topic. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Space Before <\/td><td> Space added before a question, used use with the Show topic. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Text <\/td><td> The question text. <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"style-organiser\">Organising the question styles<a id=\"post-1542-_Toc33623702\"><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/using-the-style-organiser\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Style Organiser<\/a> tool allows you to view the styles you have used within the questionnaire. Style Organiser is only available in Style mode <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-1555\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/stylemodeicon-png-10.png\" alt=\"StyleModeIcon.png\"> and can be used to sort styles, as well as rename and make copies of styles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Style mode <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-1565\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/stylemodeicon-png-12.png\" alt=\"StyleModeIcon.png\"> , clicking the Style Properties button <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-1566\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/variablepropsicon-png-10.png\" alt=\"VariablePropsIcon.png\">. This opens the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/style-properties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Style Properties<\/a> dialog for the  selected question style, where you can change the style name, based on style and the question that can follow this style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can save the question styles as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/snapxmp\/style-templates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Style Template<\/a> so that you can use them in other questionnaires.
