It is also called dynamic text, text substitution or piping. This provides a personalized experience as the respondent progresses through the questionnaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many uses for dynamic text:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>change the question text based on the responses to previous questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>change the answer codes based on the responses to previous questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>customize instructions based on the responses to previous questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>insert system settings (paradata) including case number and interview date and time information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inserting a previous response into the text<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Position the cursor in the text at the location where you require the variable field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Insert<\/strong> <strong>Variable Field<\/strong>\u00a0from the toolbar. This displays the\u00a0<strong>Snap Variable <\/strong>dialog.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"452\" height=\"40\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VariableField.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12925\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VariableField.png 452w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/VariableField-300x27.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>Complete the fields to define the variable field:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>Variable&nbsp;<\/strong>list contains all the variables and paradata for the questionnaire. Select the variable that you want to use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In&nbsp;<strong>Aspect<\/strong>, select the type of text to insert. There are three aspects to choose from:&nbsp;<strong>Reply<\/strong>&nbsp;inserts the question response;&nbsp;<strong>Name&nbsp;<\/strong>inserts the question number and&nbsp;<strong>Inline Question <\/strong>inserts an inline question.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In&nbsp;<strong>Text Transformation<\/strong>, choose the case used to display the text: Normal, UPPER CASE, lower case, Sentence case, Title Case.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"226\" height=\"311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Screenshot-2024-12-18-164205.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12923\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Screenshot-2024-12-18-164205.png 226w, https:\/\/www.snapsurveys.com\/support-snapxmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Screenshot-2024-12-18-164205-218x300.png 218w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>Click<strong>&nbsp;OK<\/strong>. This displays the variable field inside brackets, for example, {Q2}.
