Add a shadow

The shadow style places a shadow around the widget in the dashboard. This is available for all widgets.

Select the Shadow option to show the shadow. Click Apply or OK to apply the change.

Clear the Shadow option to remove the shadow.

Padding

The padding changes the margins between the edge of the widget display area and the widget, such as, a title, chart or table. The Padding range is from 0 to 20. This is available for all widgets.

Chart appearance

The charts have additional style options.

Horizontal axis

Selecting the Horizontal axis option switches the horizontal and vertical axes. This is available for Line charts, Bar chart and Stacked bar.

Legend

Selecting the Legend option displays the chart’s legend, helping to identify the chart items. This is available for all charts.

Line interpolation

This changes the style of the line in Line charts only. You can choose from Linear, Cubic and Stepped.

Select the Line interpolation required, then click OK or Apply to apply the changes.

Fill

This is only available in Radar charts.

Select the Fill option, then click OK to apply to apply the changes.

The Fill option fills in the radar chart with colour.

Once you have created a dashboard, you add the analysis content and text information.

The Insert widget menu contains all the available text and analysis items, including

• Text, including titles, headings and narrative
• Images
• Charts, including line chart, bar chart, pie chart and gauge
• Tables, including crosstab, frequency, grid and statistics
• Breaks, including page break, separator and spacer
• Select page
• Links to web pages
• Survey variable fields

During the dashboard design, you can keep track of the changes made by using the history. This lets you go back to previous versions of the dashboard within the current session.

Loading a previous version

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. Click on the dashboard that you want to edit.

3. Click on the History properties menu. This displays a list of all the dashboard versions available. The tick identifies the last saved version of the dashboard.

4. Click on a link in the list to open the dashboard version at the timestamp. You can edit this version and save the changes to the dashboard.

A tabbed view of your dashboard groups together questions on the same page and lets your viewers navigate quickly from one tab to another without the need to go through the pages one by one. 

Insert Select Page

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.

3. In the Settings menu, select Select Page and drag to the dashboard editor. This inserts a Select Page widget displaying the tab selector and a page break. The number of tabs is determined by the number of existing page breaks. For example, if you already have a page break then there will be 2 tabs, one for the new page break and one for the existing page break.

4. You can resize the Title box by dragging the resize arrows.

Each tab displays the content on the relevant page. For example, the content between the first and second page break appears when you click the first tab.

Change the tab name

The tab headings use the page break name from the associated page. You can change the name of the page break in the Page break settings.

Set the question type

There are three tab styles: Drop-down, Radio and Tabs. The default is Tabs.

1. Click on the Settings icon to open the Select page settings.
2. In Question Type, select the style required.
3. Click OK to save the changes and exit the settings, or click Apply to apply the changes. Click Cancel to abandon the changes.

Select the initial tab

You can select the initial tab to display when the user opens the dashboard.

1. Click on the Settings icon to open the Select page settings.
2. In Initial value, select the initial tab required.
3. Click OK to save the changes and exit the settings, or click Apply to apply the changes. Click Cancel to abandon the changes.

Changing the style

You can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Sometimes as you are working you may make a mistake. You can use the Undo function to undo your last action editing the questionnaire. Redo allows you to redo the previously undone action.

The Undo and Redo buttons are located on the Dashboard toolbar.

Undo

Click the Undo button to cancel your last action. The Undo count will decrease by 1 and the Redo count will increase by 1. When the Undo count is 0 the Save button is greyed out.

There are some actions that you cannot undo, such as saving the questionnaire.

Redo

Click the Redo button to redo the previously undone action. The Redo count will decrease by 1 and the Undo count will increase by 1.

History

If you wish to load a previous version, the history contains links that you can use to load a specific version of the dashboard.

Adding links to a questionnaire lets you include information kept elsewhere on the internet, such as terms and conditions or privacy policies. Dashboard users will always see the latest version of these documents.

Adding a link

Links are available in Titles, Headings and Narrative.

1. Place the cursor where you want the link.
2. Click Insert Link on the Dashboard toolbar. This opens the Link dialog.

3. Enter the link URL using “https://” to open a secure web page given by the URL.
4. Click OK to save the changes and add the link.
5. Edit the display text of the link, if required.

Testing the link

1. Select the Preview tab to view the dashboard.

2. Click the link to make sure it goes to the correct webpage or email.

Editing the link URL

1. Select the Edit tab to edit the link URL
2. Click on the link, then click Edit.

3. Make the changes to the URL, then click Save.

Removing the link

1. Select the Edit tab

2. Click on the link, then click Remove.

When you no longer need a widget, such as an out-of-date table or chart, you can easily remove it.

1. Select the dashboard that you want to edit.

2. Select the widget item, such as a table or chart, that you want to delete.
3. In the editor bar at the top, click the arrow to show the menu.

4. Click Delete. This removes the widget from the dashboard.

To cancel a deletion, click Undo on the dashboard editor panel.

When you want to add a number of the same or similar analyses, you can clone a widget to quickly create multiple similar elements to the dashboard.

1. Select the dashboard that you want to edit.

2. Select the widget item, such as a table or chart, that you want to clone.
3. In the editor bar at the top, click the arrow to show the menu.

4. Click Clone. This adds a copy of the widget underneath the original.
5. Edit the settings and resize the widget, as required.

The feature lets you give the dashboard a new name.

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. In the list of dashboards, click on the arrow next to the dashboard that you want to edit. This displays the actions menu.

3. Click the Rename menu item. This opens the Rename dashboard dialog.
4. In New name, enter the new dashboard name and click the Rename button.

When you no longer require a dashboard, you can remove it from the list of dashboards.

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. In the list of dashboards, click on the arrow next to the dashboard that you want to edit. This displays the actions menu.

3. Click the Delete menu item. This asks you to confirm that you want to delete the dashboard.
4. Click the Delete button to delete the dashboard.

If you are deleting the dashboard that is open in the dashboard editor, then the dashboard at the top of the list becomes selected after the deletion.

Copying or cloning an existing dashboard helps you create new dashboards quickly and easily.

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. In the list of dashboards, click on the arrow next to the dashboard that you want to edit. This displays the actions menu.

3. Click the Clone menu item. This opens the Clone dashboard dialog.
4. In New name, enter the name for the new dashboard and click the Clone button.

This creates the new dashboard and adds it to the list of available dashboards. The cloned dashboard opens in the dashboard editor.

When you clone a dashboard, the dashboard properties are also copied, including the Available to viewers option. If you do not want to share the new dashboard immediately, make sure you turn off the Available to viewers option.

When you have completed the dashboard design, you are ready to make the dashboard available to shared users.

Sharing the dashboard

The users that can view the dashboard must have:

• a Snap XMP Online account
• access to share the survey
• the View dashboard permission set on their account

Set available to shared viewers

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. Click on the dashboard that you want to edit.
3. Click on the Dashboard properties menu.

4. Select the Available to viewers checkbox to make the dashboard available to the users who you have shared the survey with.
5. If you wish to revoke sharing, clear the Available to viewers checkbox.

You can easily see which dashboards are available to viewers in the Dashboards list.

As the responses to your survey arrive, you will want to make sure that you see the latest available data. You can do this by refreshing the data.

Dashboard data status

You can see when the data you are viewing was loaded on the panel at the top of the dashboard editor. This shows the status of the data:

• whether it is up-to-date or not up-to-date
• how long ago the data was downloaded or the date and time that the data was downloaded

Refresh the data

To update the dashboard data, click the Refresh data button on the dashboard editor panel. This refreshes the data and changes the status to up-to-date.

When you add a new table or chart that contains data, you need to refresh the data before you see the display.

The layout of the dashboard is customisable, allowing you to display grid lines, change the number of grid columns and widget padding.

Display grid lines

Grid lines help you to align the widgets that make up the dashboard. These can be turned on or off in the Edit view. They are not shown in the preview or live dashboards.

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. Click on the dashboard that you want to edit.
3. Click on the Dashboard properties menu.

4. Select Grid lines to display the grid layout for the selected number of grid columns.

Number of grid columns

When you add a widget, such as a table or chart, the layout snaps to a grid. This lets you easily align the items in the dashboard.

The number of grid columns range from 1 to 12. This determines the maximum number of items you can have in one row. The default is the maximum number, 12.

When the number of grid columns is set to 1, each item added will be the full width of the survey page.

With a higher number of columns, there are more choices of size and quantity of items across the page. For example, if the number of gird columns is 12, you may have 3 charts that are 4 columns wide or 2 charts that are 6 columns wide, etc.

Set the number of grid columns

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. Click on the dashboard that you want to edit.
3. Click on the Dashboard properties menu.

4. In Grid columns, enter the number of grid columns required, between 1 and 12.

Widget padding

The widget padding sets the margins between the edge of the widget and the display area of the item. The padding applies to tables, charts, tab headings and text.

The padding range is between 0 and 20 and applies to all items in the dashboard. The default padding widget is 10.

Set the Widget padding

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. Click on the dashboard that you want to edit.
3. Click on the Dashboard properties menu.

4. In Widget padding, enter the padding required, between 0 and 20.

You can save the changes you have made to a dashboard, at any time. This is available in both the Edit and Preview views.

• Click Save on the dashboard toolbar.

You will see a message that the dashboard saved and the Save option on the dashboard toolbar will be cleared.

The preview view displays the dashboard as your viewers will see it, which lets you check that the dashboard appears correctly.

1. Open the survey and click on the Dashboard link in the Summary tab.
2. Click on the dashboard that you want to preview. This opens in Preview view, by default.
3. Alternatively, If you have the dashboard open in the Edit view, click Preview on the dashboard toolbar to switch to the Preview view.

If you have the dashboard open in Preview view, click Edit on the dashboard toolbar to switch back to edit the dashboard. In Preview, you can also right-click on any widget, then click the Edit menu to edit the dashboard.

There are two ways to add an image to a dashboard:

• adding an Image widget, useful for individual images
• inserting an image into a Title, Heading or Narrative, useful for a combination of text and images

Adding an Image widget

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu, if it is not shown.

3. In the Text & images menu, select Image and drag to the dashboard editor.
4. Click the Select Image button.
5. Select the image file.
6. Click Open.
7. You can resize the Image box by dragging the resize arrows.

In the Settings, you can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Insert an image in text

1. Position the cursor in the text at the location where you require the image.
2. Click Insert image from the toolbar.

3. Select the image file.
4. Click Open. This inserts the image at the cursor location.

Maximum number of images

You can add a maximum of 5 images to a dashboard. You can keep track of the images in Dashboard properties.

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Dashboard properties menu. This shows how many images you have used.

Inserting a variable field lets you change text in your dashboard. You can customize instructions and other text, based on survey variables or system settings, such as, interview date and time information.

1. Position the cursor in the text at the location where you require the variable field.
2. Click Insert variable field from the toolbar.

3. The Variable list contains all the variables and system settings for the dashboard. Select the variable that you want to use.

4. In Aspect, select the type of text to insert. There are two aspects to choose from: Label inserts the question response; Name inserts the question number.
5. In Text Transformation, choose the case to display the text: UPPER CASE, lower case, Sentence case or Title Case.
6. Click OK to save the changes to the dashboard. This displays the variable field inside brackets, for example, {Q2:Label}. This is a placeholder that is replaced by the variable field when a user is viewing the dashboard.

Breaks separate different sections of your dashboard and help make it easier to understand.

The breaks available for dashboards are Separator, Spacer and Page break.

Separator

The separator draws a line that separates different parts of the dashboard.

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.

3. In the Breaks menu, select Separator and drag to the dashboard editor.
4. You can resize the separator by dragging the resize arrows. This changes the separation area, but the line width remains the same.

Spacer

The spacer provides a blank space between dashboard content.

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.

3. In the Breaks menu, select Spacer and drag to the dashboard editor.
4. You can resize the spacer by dragging the resize arrows.

Page break

Page breaks separate the dashboard content onto separate pages. This can be used to create tabs that select different pages.

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.

3. In the Breaks menu, select Page break and drag to the dashboard editor.
4. You can name the page break. Click on the settings icon, enter a description and click OK.

Tables show the response data in a grid structure using rows and columns, where each cell contains specific information. This helps the dashboard users understand the responses to the survey. The table layouts available for dashboards include Crosstab, Frequency, Grid and Statistics.

Insert a table

1. Open the dashboard and select the Insert widget menu.

2. In the Tables menu, select the table and drag to the dashboard editor. This adds the table to the dashboard and opens the table settings.
3. In Title, enter the title description for the table .
4. The Type defaults to the table type you selected in the menu, but you can change the table type to any of the available charts or tables.

Table settings

There are four tabs: Definition, Calculate, Include and Style.

• The Definition tab defines which data is used in the table .
• The Calculate tab gives the option to select counts or percent.
• The Include tab gives the option to include responses with errors, not asked or no reply.
• The Style tab gives the option to display a shadow and customise the padding.

Edit the table settings

1. In the Definition tab, choose the Type option.
   • 2-D table includes both Rows (Analysis) and Columns (Break)
   • 1-D table includes Rows (Analysis)
   • Grid table
   • Holecount table
2. In Rows (Analysis), click the Select button and choose a variable from the list, then click OK.
3. In Columns (Break), click the Select button and choose a variable from the list, then click OK.
4. In Filter, enter the filter criteria, e.g. Q1=2
5. Select Transpose, if you want to transpose the table .
6. In the Calculate tab, choose the Cells option.
   • Counts
   • Row Percents
   • Column Percents
   • Total Percents
7. In the Include tab:
   • select Errors if you want to include data with errors
   • select Not Asked if you want to include data that was not asked
   • select No Reply if you want to include data that had no reply
8. In the Style tab, you can set the shadow and padding.
9. Click OK to save all the changes. Click Apply to apply the changes. Click Restore to return to the original values, if the chart was edited. Click Cancel to abandon the changes.

Resize the table

You can resize the table box by dragging the resize arrows.

Charts show the response data in a visual format, helping individuals understand the responses to the questions. The chart layouts available for dashboards include line charts, bar charts, pie charts, doughnut charts and gauges.

Insert a chart

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.

2. In the Charts menu, select the chart you want and drag to the dashboard editor. This opens the chart settings with the chart type selected.
3. In Title, enter the title description for the chart.
4. The Type defaults to the chart type you selected in the menu, but you can change the chart type to any of the available charts or tables.

Chart settings

There are three tabs: Definition, Calculate and Include.

• The Definition tab defines which data is used in the chart.
• The Calculate tab gives the option to select counts or percent.
• The Include tab gives the option to include responses with errors, not asked or no reply.

Adding text to your dashboard helps the user understand what information they are looking at and can give additional information not contained on the analysis. You can also include links, images and variable fields in the text.

There are three types of text available: Titles, Headings and Narrative

Titles

The dashboard title describes the contents of the dashboard.

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu.

3. In the Text & images menu, select Title and drag to the dashboard editor.

4. Enter the title description in the box.
5. You can resize the Title box by dragging the resize arrows.

In the Settings, you can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Headings

Headings are used to group together related content.

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu.

3. In the Text & images menu, select Heading and drag to the dashboard editor.

4. Enter the heading description in the box.
5. You can resize the Heading box by dragging the resize arrows.

In the Settings, you can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Narrative

Narrative provides wording that explains the content in more detail, or provide instructions to the user.

1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
2. Click the Insert widget menu.

3. In the Text & images menu, select Narrative and drag to the dashboard editor.

4. Enter the text information in the box.
5. You can resize the Narrative box by dragging the resize arrows.

In the Settings, you can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Formatting the text

The text formatting toolbar contains options to format the text and paragraph layout.

These include:

• Font style options: bold, italic, underline and strikethrough
• Text colour and background color
• Paragraph style options: numbered list, bullet list, decrease indent, increase indent and align
• Font selection, font size and paragraph header style selection

Place the cursor where you want the style to begin, or select the text you want to change, then select the formatting option.

Each survey can have multiple dashboards. First you need to create a dashboard, before adding the content.

Create new dashboard

1. Open the Dashboard section of the survey.

2. Click Create New to create a new dashboard.

3. Enter a name for the dashboard, then click Create.

The new dashboard opens in the Edit view ready for you to add content, such as charts, tables and text.

Before adding content, it’s helpful to set the dashboard layout, but you can change the layout at any time.

Check the live dashboard looks the way you want using the Preview view.

Save any changes as you create your dashboard.
